THE STUDENTS ARRIVE!
Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard and wife, Cyndie, wearing yellow helper T-shirts, greeted students and their families and helped them move into residence halls on Sunday, Sept. 21. Groups of the yellow-shirted workers helped approximately 4,120 students move into Western's residence halls and apartments during the weekened.

As a child, Kate Richard and her family lived in Salem, Ore., but moved to a new home about every two years. This taught Richard, now a senior in the Industrial Design program, about rebuilding and repairing instead of simply replacing.

It's expected that there may be some slowdown if the stock market continues to bounce around, but it will probably be less of a slowdown here than other parts of the country, said Hart Hodges, director of WWU's Center for Economic and Business Research.
- Western smacks Yellowjackets in GNAC volleyball opener
The Western Washington University volleyball team doesn't have to worry about becoming complacent. After extending its school record best start to 9-0 with a three set sweep of Montana State University Billings on Saturday, Sept. 20, to open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, the feeling after the match was more one of frustration than elation.
