BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University will be offering Professional Editing: For Print and Online, for members of the community beginning Sept. 25.
Participants will learn skills needed to produce newsletters, web content, marketing materials, formal reports, and similar publications for various fields and businesses.
Information sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 11 at Village Books in Fairhaven.
This fall, participants will focus on copy editing with hands-on exercises such as story flow and content, sentence-level accuracy and grammar, punctuation, and Associated Press and Chicago Styles. Class topics will include editing one’s own work, applying legal and ethical considerations, and maintaining relationships with communities of readers. Guest speakers will present on career paths and trends in a range of fields.
This course will benefit those who want to work as freelance editors, publication staff members, authors of their own print and online projects or professionals required to use editing skills. Participants have the option to take any individual courses or all five as a nine-month editing program; certificates are awarded for successful completion of a course.
