WWU Western Kids Camp Includes Four Special Weeks
BELLINGHAM - This summer, for the first time, Western Washington University's Western Kids Camp will host elementary students from South Korea. Local students entering grades 4-6 can be part of a rich cultural experience, in and out of the classroom.
During the final four weeks of Western Kids Camp, from July 28 to Aug. 22, camp will include free field trips each Wednesday. The field trips are optional, and include admission, lunch and transportation. Students may sign up for one or all of these weeks:
- Out in Nature, July 28-Aug. 1
Campers can explore medicinal herbs, participate in a discovery walk, observe nature, and practice "leave no trace," with a field trip to Birch Bay Waterslides.
- Washington Week, Aug. 4-8
Activities include planting trees, baking and eating apple pies, and exploring Washington resources and Native American issues, with a field trip to Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.
- Space Odyssey, Aug. 11-15
Student will learn about the solar system and the Universal time line, listen to native myths, learn about the moon and tides and view a planetarium show. The week includes a field trip to the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
- Wet & Wild (Water), Aug. 18-22
Campers will investigate water quality and conservation, explore wetlands, and learn about water cycles and marine life, complete with field trips to Whatcom Falls Park, the American Museum of Radio and Electricity and WWU's Lakewood Water Sport Facility.
