BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's College of Sciences and Technology will host Alison Williams at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, in Science Lecture Hall 120 as she presents "Lessons from the Lab: An African-American Woman's Journey."
Williams received her master's and doctorate in biophysical chemistry from the University of Rochester, is a current faculty member at Princeton University's department of Chemistry and a National Science Foundation Advance Fellow.
Williams' talk will investigate the current status of scientific pipelines in the United States; she will use current literature and personal anecdotes to explore what can be done to retain students in scientific fields, and present suggestions of positive ways the scientific community can participate in retention efforts.
This event is free and open to the public, and is part of the WWU College of Sciences and Technologies Leaders in Their Field lecture series.
