BELLINGHAM - Jason Levy, Western Washington University assistant professor of Disaster Reduction and Emergency Planning at the Huxley College of the Environment, has been appointed as an adjunct professor in the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) at the University of Manitoba.
The NRI is one of the world's most prestigious institutes for natural resource management and sustainable hazard mitigation. The mission of the Natural Resources Institute is to create, preserve, communicate and apply interdisciplinary knowledge in areas of resource and environmental management.
On Feb. 1, Levy was appointed to a three-year term with the institute by NRI Interim Dean Norman Halden and Director C. Emdad Haque. Levy will supervise doctoral student Sayedur Rahman at the NRI, and participate in the formulation and execution of graduate-studies policy and provide advice on the choice of thesis/practicum topics for graduate students. During his term at the NRI, Levy will remain a full-time faculty member at Western.
"I'm really excited to join the staff because it provides more opportunities for academic collaboration between students and faculty," Levy said. "For example, Haque is one of the most respected experts in Canadian emergency and disaster management, and now this will provide an opportunity for students at both institutions to be involved with his work."
