BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University alumnus Austin Jenckes has progressed through the blind audition stage of NBC’s “The Voice” and will move on in the weekly musical competition show with the winner receiving the grand prize of a recording contract.
Jenckes, a native of Duval in the Snoqualmie Valley and a graduate of Cedarcrest High School, graduated from Western in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Audio Recording.
“The Voice” features celebrity musician coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera who serve as coaches to the young performers they choose during the blind auditions phase; Jenckes was chosen by country music star Blake Shelton after his performance of the Lynyrd Skynyrd ballad “Simple Man.”
