About University Communications

The Office of University Communications at Western Washington University offers assistance with marketing, news management, media relations, writing and editing, publications management, graphic design, web design and development and online communications. We are part of the division of University Relations, which also includes Print and Copy Services and the Office of Government Relations.

Our award-winning staff of professionals will consult with you to determine the most effective approach to sharing your story and impacting your audience. We are experts in journalism, marketing, advertising, copywriting, graphic design and web development, and we’re here to work with you to create a solution that meets your needs.

Should you have print needs, we work closely with Print and Copy Services to determine your best options in creating and disseminating your message.

Here are some specific ways in which we can help you:

News Releases: We tell local, regional, national and international audiences, as appropriate, about people, research and other news at WWU. You are the newsmakers; help us tell the world about what you are doing here at Western. Using whatever medium is appropriate to your story, we’ll let folks know about your news. We also contact editors and writers directly with WWU news leads, and we respond to news media inquiries daily. Visit our news site to browse recent releases. Subscribe to WWU’s news releases by emailing news@wwu.edu or calling (360) 650-3350.

Find an Expert: Members of the news media can contact University Communications representatives for help in finding experts who will comment on news stories. Information on faculty research and areas of expertise also is available on Western’s Query website.

Graphic Design: Our talented and professional graphic designers can produce exactly what you have in mind. There services are free for use by WWU entities.

Communications: Western Today is our daily online newspaper for the WWU community. Window magazine is sent to alumni and friends of the university. The Soundings newsletter keeps parents in the loop on happenings at Western. Our social media efforts daily put news and info about Western on the screens of thousands.

Community Speakers: WWU faculty and staff are experts in their field, and they'd gladly give presentations at community events and social gatherings. Visit our Speakers Bureau for more information.
