BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s Department of Art presents “Launchpad,” an exhibition that highlights culminating work by graduating BA and BFA Studio Art students.
The exhibition will show from May 28 to June 8 in the Western Gallery located in the Fine Arts Building on Western’s campus, and is free and open to the public.
“Launchpad” brings together an exciting variety of work in painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, fibers, photography, and mixed media that reflects the vitality and diversity of the Studio Art program at Western.
An opening reception honoring graduating Studio Art majors will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 in the Western Gallery. Prizes for special merit will be juried by Studio Art faculty and awarded to selected students during the reception.
Studio Art majors at Western investigate the function and practice of art-making as well as the relationships between art, culture, artist and audience. Classes familiarize students with the principles that shape and inform visual literacy and expression. The Bachelor of Fine Arts is an expanded undergraduate art degree in which students develop a unified body of work over the course of a year working with their faculty committees.
Western Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, except Wednesdays when the gallery is open to 8 pm, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
