On Campus Offerings

Western Gallery

The Western Gallery acts as a center for the display, discussion and exchange of ideas on critical issues in contemporary art from our region and from the national and international art scene. Exhibits, which offer a variety of artistic styles in many different mediums, change frequently.

The Western Gallery is located in the Fine Arts Complex on Western’s campus and is open from September to June when classes are in session. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 12 noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is open for extended hours on Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Outdoor Sculpture Collection

Western is home to the internationally acclaimed Outdoor Sculpture Collection, which features works by the foremost contemporary artists. For a brochure with information, including a map, visit the Western Gallery (see hours listed above) or inquire at the Visitor Information Center, which is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.

Guided Tours: To make arrangements for a guided tour of the Western Gallery or the Outdoor Sculpture Collection, call (360) 650-3963.

Dr. Sarah Clark-Langager, Western Gallery director and curator of the Outdoor Sculpture Collection, is an expert on 20th century art and has held educational and curatorial positions at major museums on both the East and West Coasts. She has a Ph.D. in art history from City University of New York.


Distinguished Lecture Series

The Distinguished Lecture Series offers a community forum in which prominent speakers foster and encourage creative thought. Funded by The Western Foundation, the series is free, but tickets are required. Click here for information about guest speakers scheduled this year.


Turning Points Faculty Speaker Series

The Turning Points Faculty Speaker Series celebrates the wealth of knowledge and talent on Western's campus. The series features one-hour eclectic talks by faculty members who are experts in their fields. The series is sponsored by The Western Foundation. Lectures are free. Tickets are not required. The Skies Above Us Planetarium Tours

During the school year, groups of 15-45 may arrange a sky tour of Western’s planetarium, located atop Haggard Hall. These tours, appropriate for ages 8 and older, are led by specially trained student educators.

Two weeks’ advance notice is required to arrange a sky tour. For a reservation, call (360) 650-3399.

The planetarium has been updated with the latest projector, sound system and ceiling surfacing and offers superb video and Dolby sound presentations. Click here to learn more about the Western Washington University planetarium.


College of Fine and Performing Arts

Western's College of Fine and Performing Arts offers diverse performances, exhibitions and programs throughout the year that reflect the university's goal to make the arts central to everyday life. Click here for more information.

Music for Your Event

The College of Fine and Performing Arts Department of Music can arrange student and faculty music ensembles for your event. A fee is normally associated with this service. For more information, call (360) 650-3130.

Extended Education and Summer Programs

Youth programs offered through Western’s Extended Education and Summer Programs (EESP) provide exciting hands-on learning experiences for students in grades 3 through 12. Recent programs have included exploring the astronauts’ space training program, solving a crime as a CSI, building water-powered rockets and producing and acting in a movie. Offerings include overnight and weeklong programs.

College Quest, a summer program, provides a one-week immersion in college life for high school students. Students live in WWU residence halls and take a one-credit environmental studies course.

For adults continuing their education, EESP offers flexible scheduling certificate and degree programs on campus and at off-campus locations and home study and online courses.

Academic conferences, association meetings, seminars, and charity fundraisers can be arranged through EESP conference services.
