BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s Sanford-Hill Piano Series will feature Haochen Zhang in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15 in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.
Zhang is the second of three gold medalists to be featured during 2012-2013 as part of the Sanford-Hill Piano Series 10th anniversary season.
Just 22 years old, Chinese pianist Haochen Zhang has already captivated audiences around the world with his genuine musical sensitivity and mature virtuosity. He has performed both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, including a benefit concert with the Tokyo String Quartet and with the Shanghai Quartet as part of the Mountain Music Festival in the Berkshires.
In 2009 Zhang claimed gold at the distinguished Van Cliburn International Piano Competition where he was described by the Boston Globe as a “pianist with ample reserves of power whose imagination seems nonetheless most kindled by subtle delicacy.”
In addition to his evening recital, Zhang will conduct a master class from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, in the PAC Concert Hall. The master class is free and open to the public.
Tickets for the concert are available through the WWU Box Office and cost $9 students; $18 seniors, WWU faculty and staff; $24 general. A limited selection of tickets will also be available at Village Books and the Community Food Co-op.
