BELLINGHAM – Western Libraries Heritage Resources and the Washington State Archives Northwest Branch will co-host “Basics of Historical Research,” a workshop for teachers, students, beginning genealogists, and others interested in exploring the past, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Goltz-Murray Archives Building on Western’s campus.
The event is free and open to the public; however, all participants must pre-register by calling (425) 564-3950 or e-mailing email@example.com.
Participants will get practical advice and learn the basic steps for gathering the information needed to investigate and interpret a historical topic for a museum exhibit, class project, community celebration, curriculum enrichment, research article, History Day, a classroom based assessment (CBA), or personal historical interest. This class will cover primary and secondary research sources and how to use them, getting the most out of the library system, finding and using archival collections, finding and using reliable online resources, the proper citation of research sources, and integrating and interpreting information from different research sources.
