BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University senior instructor of Communication and journalist Jennifer Karchmer will speak about her research on freedom of the press in Iceland from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, in Communications Facility 125.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
Karchmer, who serves as a volunteer Washington State Bureau Correspondent for Reporters Without Borders-USA, took a six-week trip to Iceland this winter.
She will talk about the journey and her meetings with Icelandic journalists on press freedom.
“Iceland has intrigued me because we don’t hear much about that nation, and it’s been at the top of the Reporters Without Borders press freedom index for many years,” she said. “It led me to think, ‘What's going on there? How do they do journalism?’”
The 90-minute presentation will include a Q-and-A with Karchmer. Snacks will be provided.
There will be free parking in lot 12A after 4:30 p.m.
